Synopsis
On February 20, 1991, following several weeks of student protests in December and recent days of a hunger strike, the citizens of Tirana united in a grand protest, culminating in the toppling of Enver Hoxha’s monument. This date marked the end of the communist regime in Albania.
PALIMPSEST revisits the actual space 17 years later, while the sounds and commentary from that day still echo throughout the footage. The entire material, both video and audio, was edited and post-produced another 16 years later, thus giving birth once again to a digital PALIMPSEST in itself.
